Ideology of 'people and soil', 1914-1946
This research focuses on the ideas of the Frisian 'people' and their 'soil', in particular in relation to ideas about folklore, literature, Frisian history, the 'Frisian Movement', agrarian politics, economic development and anthropology. These very ideas are the building blocks of the - different versions - of Frisian-nationalistic ideology as developed between the World Wars. The results of this research will be published in a book, to appear at the end of 2008.
Recent publications deal with the Second World War, the purging of the Frisian Movement (1945-1946), the founding of the Fryske Akademy (1938), Frisian folklore between 1920-1945 and Douwe Kiestra.
