Aim

The Linguistic Working Group aims at bringing together those interested in the linguistic study of Frisian -both amateur and professional linguists- by means of organising thematic meetings twice a year. In doing so, it hopes to further Frisian linguistics. Not only modern (West) Frisian, but also Old and Middle Frisian and the transitional stages between them can come up for discussion. Likewise can East and North Frisian be subjects of discussion, as well as the Dutch dialects on a Frisian subtratum (mainly in the north of the Dutch provinces of Noord-Holland and Groningen).

Themes

The organizers try to alternate between meetings with difficult and more accessible themes. During the past few years, the following themes have been dealt with: syntax, etymology, morphology, dialectology, Town Frisian, verbal clustering, aspects of the Frisian lexicon, the history of Frisian linguistics, and the peripheral dialects of Frisian.
