150-year-old maple tree in Academy garden topped

One of the old maples in the Academy Garden has been topped. The monumental tree is no longer in good condition. Last year, dead wood was therefore already cut out. This year, it was necessary to opt for more drastic measures for the more than 150-year-old tree.

The bad parts of the tree were removed and so it is hoped that the tree can remain standing for a few more years. The wood that was released has been offered to Stadshout Leeuwarden. They can make beautiful products from it. The Fryske Akademy will get an insight into the process of what is done with the wood.
