Essays Hans Mol and Alex Kerkhof in conference collection Holland Dag 2022

Essays Mol and Kerkhof

Last summer, Holland Day (Holland Dag) was organised in Leiden for the third time. This day is organised every two years by the Stichting Ontstaan van Holland, on behalf of the Province of South Holland. The foundation receives cooperation from Leiden University, Erfgoed Leiden e.o. and Erfgoedhuis Zuid-Holland. The aim of the day is to promote knowledge, insights and awareness among a wide audience about the formation of the county of Holland between 900 and 1300.

Two researchers from the Fryske Akademy also contributed to this Holland Day 2022: Hans Mol and Alex Kerkhof. Their contributions are now included in the conference essay collection 'New perspectives on an old story'.

Hans Mol is a researcher in medieval history at the Fryske Akademy in Leeuwarden and (emeritus) extraordinary professor of history of the Frisian lands at Leiden University. His contribution is entitled: 'Studying the regional Middle Ages - how long and how?' ('Bestudering van de regionale middeleeuwen - hoe lang nog en hoe?').

Peter-Alexander (Alex) Kerkhof is a historian and linguist. He received his PhD from Leiden University in 2018 and is currently working as a historical linguist at the Fryske Akademy. His contribution is entitled 'The languages of Holland between the 10th and 12th centuries' ('De talen van Holland tussen de 10de en 12de eeuw').

The conference volume is available for free download.
