The Genealogysk Wurkferbân of the Fryske Akademy organises excursions and meetings with lectures on genealogy and heraldry. The annual excursion of the 2023/2024 season is scheduled for Saturday, 16 September. Then the researchers will be guests in the open-air museum It Damshûs in Nij Beets (NL).
It Damshûs is an open-air museum that shows the history of peat. Nij Beets was the last center where low peat was peated. The museum shows the influence of this on the landscape and on the people. An impression is given of the living and working conditions in the period 1860-1920.
This excursion is a joint trip of the Genealogysk Wurkferbân and the Friesland Department of the NGV. All members are very welcome. More information about registering for this day can be found in the invitation (pdf) .
About it Genealogysk Wurkferbân (Genealogical Work Association)
The Genealogysk Wurkferbân digs into Fryslân's paper past. The researchers are engaged in the study of genera. They focus on the coherence of those genera and on the circumstances in which they lived. They do this to deepen their own insight, but also to help others, such as historians, with the results of their research.
After the Second World War, the Genealogysk Wurkferbân of the Fryske Akademy was established to join forces in that area. From the members of the Genealogysk Wurkferbân, a number of members were installed in 1956 as the Fryske Rie foar Heraldyk. This heraldic college deals with all matters concerning coats of arms and flags.
