Speechology for the Frisian language of Saterland

Within the Frisian language family, Westerlauwers Frisian and North Frisian are well described. The small remnant of East Frisian, Saterland Frisian, in Germany, was an understudy for many years.

In 2021, the Fryske Akademy built Kramer's (1996) grammatical foundation into a provisional grammar (Grammatik 2021, 29,000+ words ). In 2022, the Sater team (consisting of linguists Dr Eric Hoekstra (Fryske Akademy), Bouke Slofstra and Henk Wolf (scientific collaborator for Sater;and Frisian at the Oldenburgische Landschaft)) continued working on this book. The result is a greatly expanded and reasonably complete grammar (Sprachlehre 2022, 55,000+ words ).

The project was partly paid for by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur and the municipality of Saterland (Germany ). By 2023, the plan is to produce an English translation of the Sprachlehre and enter it in Taalportaal.org, which will also include Dutch and Westerlauwers Frisian.
