The Celtic Summer 2023: 100 years of Celtic in Utrecht (NL)

The Fryske Akademy is not the only institute celebrating an anniversary this year. Our knowledge partners in the Celtic Languages and Culture program at Utrecht University can celebrate their centenary in 2023! Congratulations! Research into Celtic languages and cultures has been carried out there since 1923, thanks to Professor of German Studies, Anton Gerard van Hamel. He was determined that Celtic studies should be added to his teaching duties, as he believed that languages could not be studied in isolation.

Celebration

To celebrate this centenary, the Celtics department is organizing the mini-festival The Celtic Summer on 1 July 2023, packed with interesting workshops, lectures, films, new publications and musical surprises. In this way, everyone can become acquainted with the world of Celtic studies in an accessible yet profound way. The Fryske Akademy is also happy to contribute to this festive event. Peter Alexander Kerkhof and Han Nijdam, researchers at the Fryske Akademy, will provide a mini course in Old Frisian during the festival. The entire program can be found on the website of De Keltische Zomer.
