Biography

Mark Raat (Medemblik, 1988) studied history at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Between 2015 and 2019 he worked at the Fryske Akademy as historical researcher for the HisGIS Time Machine projects, as of January 2021 he started as PhD candidate.

His PhD research concerns the long-term historical development of the Frisian peatland area (1600-1970), under supervision of prof. dr. Marijn Molema and prof. dr. Hans Mol. This project is a collaboration of the Fryske Akademy and the Fries Sociaal Planbureau, which aligns with a project of Inspiratieteam Toekomst Veenweide and the National Park Alde Feanen.
