Lecture

Ing. Johan Feikens, HisGis Coördinator for the Fryske Akademy, will give a lecture on Geobuzz 2025 with the title ‘Digitale vensters op het verleden. Het Historisch Kadaster en de reconstructie van het Friese kustgebied in de vroege middeleeuwen.’ ('Digital windows on the past. The Historical Cadastre and the reconstruction of the Frisian coastal area in the early Middle Ages.')

This lecture explains the new GIS portal that will be launched at the end of 2026. This brings together historical maps and sources for scientific research. The Historical Cadastre of 1832 is the key to georeferencing manuscript maps and building a digital historical base map of the Frisian coastal area in the early Middle Ages. The renewed portal gives the well-known maps of HisGIS.nl a contemporary look and makes them usable in a broader, interprovincial and thematically coherent research design.
