As a platform for citizen science and a meeting place between science and society, the Fryske Akademy's working groups and study circles each offer the opportunity to study a variety of scientific topics in a broader context.
Founding year: 1957Every winter period, the Akademy Lectures Working Group organises a series of six public lectures in cooperation with women's organisations in Fryslân. The lecture series is held in Leeuwarden and Joure.
Founding year: 1983The Archaeological Working Group aims to bring together amateur archaeologists in Fryslân. With numerous activities, the working group tries to support archaeological research in the province.
Founding year: 1953The Biological Working Group has a task to make scientific knowledge about landscape and nature in Fryslân widely available, and to stimulate publications in this field.
Founding year: 1956The Frisian Council for Heraldry is the oldest provincial heraldic college in the Netherlands and consists of specialists, who have been appointed members of the Council on the basis of their expertise.
Founding year: 1946The Genealogical Working Group digs into Fryslân's paper past, and studies Frisian family history. The working group organises meetings and excursions and compiles the Genealogysk Jierboek.
Founding year: 1941The Agricultural Working Group organises regular meetings and excursions on agronomic issues of the past and present. The aim of these activities is to share (scientific) knowledge with a wide audience.
Founding year: 1951The Literary Network is concerned with studying the literature and literary history of Fryslân in the broadest sense.
Since 1938The Literêre Rigen Editorial Board provides editions about Mid Frisian texts, nineteenth-century texts, twentieth-century texts, and bio- and bibliographic writings.
Founding year: 2009The Maritime History Working Group aims to promote the study of and interest in Fryslân's maritime history, including with an annual symposium.
Founding year: 1979The Linguistic Working Group aims to bring together people interested in the linguistic study of Frisian - both amateur linguists and professional linguists - in order to promote the practice of Frisian linguistics.
