PLURILINGMEDIA AI committee led by Jelske Dijkstra seeks candidates

Language Plurality in Europe’s Changing Media Sphere is an interdisciplinary research network funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Association. PLURILINGMEDIA promotes research into media in regional and minority languages. Jelske Dijkstra of the Fryske Akademy will now lead a special ad hoc AI committee for PLURILINGMEDIA.

The network has four working groups, each with a different focus. Working group 1 deals with “Media habits of the public and creators”, working group 2 has “Legislation and standards” as its theme, the third working group works on “Language vitality”, and the fourth has “Journalism” as its subject. On behalf of the Mercator European Research Centre for Multilingualism and Language Learning, part of the Fryske Akademy, Jelske Dijkstra and Ydwine Scarse are involved in PLURILINGMEDIA working groups 2 and 3.

Committee chair

The PLURILINGMEDIA AI committee will examine the role of AI within each of the working groups' areas of focus and formulate recommendations in the coming period. Led by Jelske Dijkstra of the Mercator European Research Centre of the Fryske Akademy, this ad hoc group is now calling for committee members with expertise and/or competence in the field of AI for regional and minority languages and European AI law.

Tasks

The AI committee shall, in principle, meet online every one or two months, starting with an online kick-off meeting on 19 November, and run for 1 year. Members of the AI committee shall be prepared to attend meetings, contribute actively to discussions in the committee, be involved in preparatory work ahead of meetings, and examine, co-write and provide comments on documents under discussion.
