Sterke Tsjerke Stories by Nelleke IJssennagger-van der Pluijm, Village church, Zurich (NL)

To celebrate its 55th anniversary, the Alde Fryske Tsjerken Foundation is organising "Sterke Tsjerke Stories," a series of four lectures by distinguished speakers sharing their top three tales about Frisian churches. Nelleke IJssennagger-van der Pluijm, director of the Fryske Akademy and professor of Cultural History of the Southern North Sea Region in the Early Middle Ages and Viking Age, has also been invited as speaker.

IJssennagger-van der Pluijm will discuss the end of the Viking Age and the beginning of Old Frisian: the oldest Frisian churches and their predecessors saw the last of the Vikings. But what happened then, and what happened at the churches? IJssennagger-van der Pluijm will also briefly discuss the founding of the Fryske Akademy in 1938 and the international students who passed through the University of Franeker.
