Nynke Duijff-Veenstra wins Grut Frysk Diktee

Nynke Duijff-Veenstra from Damwâld won the frist prize in the Grut Frysk Diktee with only 2.5 mistakes.

The Grut Frysk Diktee 2024 was won by Nynke Duijff-Veenstra from Damwâld. With only 2.5 mistakes, this result was good for the Golden Roof. Extra special because Nynke was diagnosed with the muscle disease ALS a few years ago. As a result, she has almost lost her ability to speak and she is experiencing more and more problems with movement. That is why she made the dictation in the state hall on a special laptop. Together with her son Willem Duijff, she received the golden roof.

Second were Mariska Velstra and Hessel Yntema, third Doutsen Jellema and Siegbert de Jong. This year five teams participated. They competed against each other and the Friends of Frisian institutions were the winning team with an average of 12.6 mistakes. They were followed by the students from Amsterdam (with an average of 26.5 mistakes) and the third place was for the team of the Harkemase Boys (average 39.9 mistakes).

The text of the dictation was written by weather and climate expert Gerrit Hiemstra and was entitled 'Ofskied fan 'e winter' (Farewell to winter). In seven sentences, Hiemstra indicated that the climate is changing. If we want to do something about it, we have to say goodbye to our current way of life, there has to be a transition, especially, especially in thinking. The former weatherman scared the participants with   kerbûstich (windy) and ûnlijich (stormy) weather and words like eazjende stjalprein (heavy downpour). Ek Jûkelburd and Rûchburd , as designations for King Winter, came along to tease the participants.
