Call for nominations: new Akademy members for 2026

Ever since the establishment of the Fryske Akademy in 1938, new Akademy members have been appointed every year. Akademy members are persons who have positively and demonstrably made a special contribution to the scientific or social field of the Frisian language, culture and Fryslân in general.Who do you think should become the new Academy members in 2026?

 

At the Akademydei fan 2025, director Nelleke IJssennagger-van der Pluijm welcomed two new members. Syds Wiersma and Piter Tjeerdsma were ceremoniously appointed as Akademy members. This annually growing network currently consists of more than 240 people.

Nomination

Donors, employees, and members of the Fryske Akademy can nominate individuals for appointment as members of the Fryske Akademy throughout the year. On Akademy Day, new members are appointed by the director-administrator, who is assisted in assessing the nominations by the appointment committee.

For an appointment on the Akademy Day on Friday, September 11, 2026, nominations must be submitted to the membership appointment committee no later than Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
