Rikele Hollema winner Grut Frysk Diktee 2025

The Grut Frysk Diktee 2025 has been won by Rikele Hollema from Earnewâld. With only four errors, he was able to take home the coveted Golden Roof. Of the six participating teams, it was the Nature Experts who were declared the best team of the evening with an average of 28 errors. Outgoing chairman of the Royal Association De Friesche Elf Steden Wiebe Wieling had written the dictation text.

Yn- and ynfrysk, akutesoarchferpleechkundigen, yrreële, nijmoadrige and ferfijde, these were surely the words that the 50 or so participants in the States Chamber of the Provincial House had the most difficulty with. Wieling had included these words in a text about the great organisation surrounding an Elfsteden event, about moving with the times and sticking to traditions.

Twenty participants had qualified for the Grut Frysk Diktee on a personal basis. Nynke Duijff from Damwâld, the 2024 winner, finished third this year with five errors. Maaike Andringa from Leeuwarden occupied the deserved second place with 4.5 errors. Rikele Hollema from Earnewâld had delivered the best dictation with 4 errors.

Besides the 20 candidates, five teams of six also competed against each other. This year's teams consisted of Famous Frisians, Friesian examination candidates from CSG Bogerman in Sneek, Nature Experts, Rayon Heads and the mop-up orchestra De Hegemer Dekdweilers, which marched into the provincial hall while playing. In the end, the Nature People had done the dictation best on average and were rewarded with flowers and books.

The jury consisted of chairman Hindrik Sijens (Fryske Akademy), Frisian teacher Rianne Blokzijl, Grietje van der Weg (Cedin) and Mirjam Vellinga (Afûk).

About the Grut Frysk Diktee

Afûk, Taalsintrum Frysk (Cedin), Fryske Akademy, Omrop Fryslân and the Province of Fryslân organise the Grut Frysk Diktee every year in the spring. The text is always written by a well-known Frisian. For previous editions, weatherman Gerrit Hiemstra, politician Habtamu de Hoop, singer Iris Kroes and journalist Welmoed Sijtsma, for instance, have already written a dictation text.
