Wiebe Wieling writes Grut Frysk Diktee 2025

On Tuesday 8 April, the Statenzaal of the Provinciehuis will again be the arena where the Grut Frysk Diktee will be held. Fifty people will then tackle difficult words and exceptions in Frisian spelling. This year, the dictation text will be written by Elfsteden chairman Wiebe Wieling.

The outgoing chairman of the Koninklijke Vereniging De Friesche Elfsteden considers it an honour that he has been asked to write the Grut Frysk Diktee. Choosing a subject was not difficult for Wiebe Wieling: ‘In 1997 was the last Elfstedentocht. Almost thirty years ago. What has changed? Is it still possible? That's what we will talk about.’

From well-known Frisians to party marching band

Besides the 20 candidates who can qualify on a personal basis, five teams of six will also compete among themselves. This year's teams consist of Famous Frisians, exam candidates Frisian, nature people, security people and a party marching band.

Participate

Anyone who would like to participate in the Grut Frysk Diktee on 8 April must qualify. From 24 February to 24 March, anyone can enter the qualifying dictation online at fryskdiktee.nl. From the best participants, twenty candidates will be selected and invited to participate in the grand final in the elegant Statenzaal of the provincial government building in Leeuwarden. The winner will go home with the coveted Golden Roof.

The Grut Frysk Diktee will be broadcast on Wednesday 9 April at 19.30 by Omrop Fryslân. The organisation of the dictation is in the hands of the Afûk, the Taalsintrum Frysk (Cedin), the Fryske Akademy, Provinsje Fryslân and Omrop Fryslân. About the Grut Frysk Diktee

Afûk, Taalsintrum Frysk (Cedin), Fryske Akademy, Omrop Fryslân and the Province of Fryslân organise the Grut Frysk Diktee every year in the spring. The text is always written by a well-known Frisian. For previous editions, weatherman Gerrit Hiemstra, politician Habtamu de Hoop, singer Iris Kroes and journalist Welmoed Sijtsma, have all written a dictation text.
