Hanna Hallema wins the Skriuw! Bernediktee 2026

Hanna had only 6 faults and was therefore able to take home a large trophy. Dieuwke Buma came in second, and Wybe van Stralen came in third.

Is der in spûk yn tsjerke of dream ik?” In the Statenzaal of the Province of Fryslân, Hanna Hallema from CBS De Fûgelsang in Berlikum was announced as the winner of the Skriuw! Bernediktee 2026, the writing contest for students in grades 7 and 8. The dictation text was based on the ghost story by Lisanne Okkema from CBS de Bonkelder in Witmarsum, who won the Skriuw! Story Contest in April with her entry.

Hanna made only 6 mistakes and was therefore able to take home the grand trophy. Second place went to Dieuwke Buma from Master Frankeskoalle in Earnewâld with 9 mistakes. Third place, with 20 mistakes, went to Wybe van Stralen from De Klinkert in Sloten.

Nearly 30 students from 20 elementary schools across Fryslân participated in the dictation this time. Singer and writer Janneke Brakels read the dictation text aloud. The most difficult words were undoubtedly “yslik” and “alderheislikst,” yet many children still spelled them correctly.

About Skriuw!

Skriuw! (translation: Write!) is the successor to the Lyts Frysk Diktee, but with a different format. Previously, schools were sent practice dictations, and after a qualifying round, children were invited to the dictation finals at the Provincial Government Building. Skriuw! is much more than that. Skriuw! is a story contest and writing event for students in grades 7 and 8. Schools can choose to participate in the story contest, the dictation, or both.

Creative writing assignments in the classrooms aim to encourage as many children as possible to write in Frisian. For example, students work toward writing a story for the Skriuw! story contest. The student who writes the best story wins a prize, and the winning story is also used as the basis for the text of the Skriuw! children’s dictation.

Skriuw! is organized by Cedin, Afûk, the Province of Fryslân, and the Fryske Akademy.

More information about Skriuw! can be found on the Skriuw! website.
