Biography

Tamara Dijkstra (1985, Leeuwarden) studied Classics  (BA 2007, MA 2010 cum laude) and Archaeology (BA 2009 cum laude, MA 2012 cum laude) at the University of Groningen and obtained her PhD in 2019 at the same university with a thesis on burial culture and identity in Greco-Roman Antiquity (From Polis to Colonia: Death, Burial and Society in Hellenistic and Roman Patras).

Between 2019 and 2022, she was lecturer in the departments of Ancient History and Archaeology, and from 2022 to the present, she has been a postdoctoral researcher within the MARE project, focusing on the funerary epigraphy of Roman Pisidia (Embodied Epitaphs). In addition, she has been affiliated with the Halos Archaeological Project in Thessaly since 2008, conducting research on Hellenistic houses and households. At the Fryske Akademy, she researches the burial culture and funerary heritage of Friesland and is the program coordinator for Digital Humanities.
