Biography
Gilles de Langen (Groningen, 1959) studied new history and prehistory at the University of Groningen, where he also obtained his doctorate in 1992. Since 1998, he has been provincial archaeologist for the province of Fryslân. As of 2011, he is serving as extraordinary professor of Archaeology of the Northern Dutch mounds and mound landscape and as such affiliated to the Groninger Institute of Archaeology (GIA ). Since 2015, he has worked at the Fryske Akademy as a researcher in medieval archaeology.
