Frisian Council for Heraldry
As its name suggests, the Fryske Rie foar Heraldyk (Frisian Council for Heraldry) is a committee that gives advice. This is in the field of arms of the province, municipalities, water boards, the arms of towns, spots and villages and existing family arms. Moreover, the Rie designs coats of arms, flags and pennants for villages, families and corporations such as schools, associations, etc., among others.
Furthermore, the Rie is active in the field of flag protocol, advising on restorations (heraldic images), giving lectures and heraldry lessons. In addition, some members provide publications on various heraldic subjects. However, it must be related to Fryslân.
Founded in 1956, the Fryske Rie foar Heraldyk is the oldest provincial heraldic college in the Netherlands and consists of specialists, who have been appointed members of the Rie on the basis of their expertise. This is therefore not a study circle that is freely accessible. Donors and members of the Akademy can therefore not become members of the council.

Dorpswapens in Fryslân
A new publication on the village coats of arms of Fryslân has been produced especially for the 70th anniversary of the Fryske Rie voor Heraldyk of the Fryske Akademy. King's Commissioner Arno Brok was presented with the book on Saturday, October 3, 2026, by herald and chair Jan Anema.
The publication Dorpswapens in Fryslân was written and compiled by the heralds Jan T. Anema and Jelle C. Terluin. It includes 408 village coats of arms. For villages that did not yet have a coat of arms, the Council created a design. This makes the book a unique collection of village coats of arms from Fryslân.
