Fryske Akademy presents vision for new citizen science network in Fryslân
A dynamic network
The poster shows how the Fryske Akademy wants to work towards a broad network for citizen science. This network will be divided into three knowledge networks that are thematically aligned with the Fryske Akademy's research agenda. Within each knowledge network, various theme and project groups can be formed, which work together to develop and share scientific knowledge with Frisian society. This creates a dynamic whole where social issues are addressed and where impulses for new projects can arise.

Stronger links between science and society
This new network not only encompasses the existing working community of the Fryske Akademy, but is also explicitly open to the wider Frisian community and other organisations and initiatives. The aim is to strengthen the links between science and citizens. Citizen science, a research method in which citizens make an active contribution to scientific research, plays an important role in this.
A long tradition of citizen science in Friesland
Although the concept of citizen science has only really taken off in recent years, the Fryske Akademy already has a long tradition in this field. Since the Fryske Akademy was founded in 1938, working groups have been an important part of the institute.
Today, these working groups still consist of enthusiastic researchers and play an important role in the Fryske Akademy's public programme. In the coming period, Van der West will work with the existing working community to further develop the plans for this new network. This will lay a solid foundation for a dynamic network in which science and citizens work together. Science for everyone: that is the starting point.
