Jarich Hoekstra passed away

Management and staff of the Fryske Akademy are touched by the news that Prof em Dr Jarich Hoekstra died on 20 September 2024 in his home town of Kiel (DE).

Before his appointment at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, Jarich Hoekstra worked a long time at the Fryske Akademy (from 1981 to 1999). First as editor of the Wurdboek fan de Fryske taal, later he devoted himself to Frisian linguistics. Hoekstra obtained his doctorate in 1997 for his thesis The syntax of infinitives in Frisian, and a year later he published the book Fryske wurdfoarming. The latter book is still a standard work in Frisian morphology.

We remember Jarich Hoekstra as a great scientist and at the same time a fine colleague.
