Discover with the Fryske Akademy the secrets of language, smells and the Frisian soil at the Fryske Akademy stand this year. How is it that we find Viking treasures in the Frisian soil? And why do people in northern Germany also speak Frisian? What does Fryslân actually smell like, and what does that say about who we are?

Conducting experiments, exploring, doing crafts, building things… A weekend full of science for children and their parents, grandparents and anyone else who fancies joining in! During the national Science Weekend on 3 October, various Frisian research and educational institutions will once again introduce you to the world of science. Mátyás Bittenbinder (Klokhuis, Zin in Zappelin) will open the event in Leeuwarden with a talk on ‘Poison in the animal kingdom’.

Join linguists and historians from the Fryske Akademy to discover how languages are connected, what lies hidden in the Frisian soil, and which scents make Friesland so special. Find out just how multilingual you secretly are, dig for traces of the past, and let your nose do the work. For curious visitors of all ages. You don’t need to speak Frisian to take part: all languages are welcome!
