Linguistic Working Group
The Linguistic Working Group (Taalkundich Wurkferbân) aims to bring together people interested in the linguistic study of Frisian - both amateur linguists and professional linguists - in order to promote the practice of Frisian linguistics.
These include Frisian in all its phases - Old Frisian, Mid Frisian, New Frisian and the transitions between them - and Frisian in a broader geographical context: East Frisian and North Frisian, Westerlauwers Frisian dialects, including the Frisian-Hollandse mixed dialects and the so-called 'Interference Frisian', and the Dutch dialects on a Frisian substratum (of West Frisia and North Groningen in particular).
Since 2006, the working group has organised the Day of Frisian Linguistics, following the mould of the Linguistics in the Netherlands Day (TIN Day). Whereas previously speakers were invited, now a call for lectures is used, to which linguists can respond. The day is held once a year, in autumn. The formula of the Dei fan de Fryske Taalkunde is catching on, as evidenced by the increasing number of presentations and by the number of presentations in a language other than Frisian or Dutch by (international) PhD students and students.
