Maritime History Working Group

The Maritime History Working Group (Wurkgroep Maritime Skiednis) aims to promote the study of and interest in Fryslân's maritime history, including with an annual symposium.

Persons actively researching (Frisian) maritime history themselves can become members of the working group. There is no membership fee, but members are asked to be donors of the Fryske Akademy. Please send applications and questions for more information to the secretary of the working group.

Excursion to Dokkum

Members of the Maritime History Working Group are warmly invited to join us on an excursion to Dokkum. The programme includes a guided city walk and a visit to the Dokkum Museum.

Programme

13:15 - Meet at the De Posthoorn hotel and restaurant (Diepswal 21, Dokkum)
13:30 - Guided city walk
14:30 - Break with coffee and tea at the Hellinghûs
14:45 - Talk by Hans Zijlstra and Nykle Dijkstra: ‘The Admiralty of Dokkum’
15:15 - Visit to the Dokkum Museum (at your own pace)
16:00 - Closing drinks at the Posthoorn

Practical information

This event is offered free of charge, including coffee or tea at the Hellinghûs and a drink afterwards. If you have a Museum Card, please bring it with you.

Guests are most welcome.

Please register by 16 October via Hester Postma, secretary of the Maritime History Working Group. There is a limit of 30 participants.

The programme begins at the De Posthoorn hotel and restaurant. Parking is available within the ramparts (paid until 18:00). Free parking is available at the P-Centrum Oost car park, De Harddraver, on Harddraversdijk (300 metres from the Posthoorn).

The Maritime History Working Group works on various activities, such as those listed below:

  • Organising public conferences on (Frisian) maritime history;
     
  • Promoting the publication of research results;
     
  • Promoting the disclosure and accessibility of relevant sources;
     
  • Promoting mutual exchanges among members.
