Linguistics Circle
The Linguistics Circle of the Fryske Akademy (Taalkundich Wurkferbân) wants to bring together people with an interest in the linguistic study of Frisian - both amateur linguists and professional linguists - in order to stimulate the practice of Frisian linguistics.
This concerns Frisian in all its phases - Old, Mid- and New Frisian and the transitions between them - and Frisian in a broader geographical context: East and North Frisian, the Westerlauwers Frisian dialects, including Frisian-Dutch mixed dialects and the so-called 'Interference Frisian', and the Dutch dialects on a Frisian substrate (mainly West Friesland and North Groningen).
Since 2006, the Linguistics Circle has organised the Day of Frisian Linguistics, according to the template of Linguistics in the Netherlands Day (TIN Day). Previously, speakers were invited, but now there is a call for lectures to which linguists can respond. This day is held once a year, in the autumn.
