Arjen Versloot interim professor of Frisian language and culture

The Fryske Akademy warmly congratulates Prof Arjen Versloot on his new appointment as interim professor of Frisian language and culture at the University of Groningen (RUG). From 15 February, he will be seconded from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for two days a week, in principle for a period of five years. Versloot's appointment offers the University of Groningen the chance to bridge the period until the reinstatement of a professor of Frisian language and culture, which will take place in a few years.

At the University of Amsterdam, Versloot occupies the chair of Germanic Linguistics, in particular of German, Scandinavian and Frisian languages. The special chair of Frisian linguistics - to which the Fryske Akademy contributes financially - is included in the chair of Germanic linguistics.

The Fryske Akademy looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Versloot and his new colleagues in Groningen. A strong university Frisiology, with room for future talent, is of great importance for a thriving knowledge ecosystem on a regional, national and international level.
