Fenna Bergsma obtains PhD from Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität (DE)

Dr Fenna Bergsma

Our colleague Fenna Bergsma has now officially received her doctorate from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). She had already successfully defended her dissertation on 17 December 2021, but in Germany, a person may only hold the doctoral title once the dissertation has been published. That is now the case.

The Fryske Akademy warmly congratulates Dr Bergsma on this special achievement!

Bergsma's scientific treatise 'Case competition in headless relatives' has been published by the Universitätsbibliothek Johann Christian Senckenberg and is available for free download. Her thesis is about how the internal structure of a word affects the grammaticality of a sentence. To this end, she compared free relative sentences and relative pronouns from different languages.
